About Mike

At age 24, Mike Rasor became one of the youngest elected officials in the history of Stow and in Summit County. It was Mike’s first election, in which he took first place out of eight candidates. He credits his success to knocking on 2,800 doors and listening to the concerns of the average residents. Mike now considers it a great privilege to advocate for those same people as their at-large representative on city council.

Mike grew up in Stow with his parents, Bob and Tina, and his younger siblings, Nate and Abby. From kindergarten through high school, Mike attended school in the Stow-Munroe Falls School District. In high school, Mike competed on the wrestling and golf teams. For both his junior and senior years, Mike served as Editor-in-Chief of the Stohion newspaper. With a 4.09 GPA, Mike graduated 11th in the 2003 class at Stow-Munroe Falls High School.

Mike graduated summa cum laude from the University of Akron, where he studied journalism and earned a minor in political science. During college, Mike spent time working at two metropolitan newspapers. He was a sports writer for the Indianapolis Star, covering minor league baseball, golf, pro tennis, and WNBA basketball. Mike also spent a year as a business writer at the Akron Beacon Journal. During college, Mike played a large role in building UA’s college newspaper, the Buchtelite, into an award-winning publication. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Buchtelite as a senior, managing more than 40 staff members and balancing a tight budget.

After college, Mike chose to study law at University of Akron, where he graduated magna cum laude and was ranked seventh in his class. During law school, Mike competed on the moot court team at the Evans Constitutional Law Competition in Madison, Wisconsin. Mike’s true passion in law school, however, was the Akron Law Review. As the Editor-in-Chief of the Akron Law Review, which is considered one of the nation’s best legal journals, Mike managed more than 50 law students, balanced a sizable budget, and streamlined the editorial process. Mike was asked to speak at his law school graduation last spring (see picture below).

Last summer, Mike passed the Ohio Bar Examination with a score in the top 95th percentile. After becoming licensed to practice law, Mike joined the respected Cleveland law firm of Cavitch, Familo & Durkin Co., L.P.A. Mike specializes in commercial real estate and lending, mergers and acquisitions, business litigation, and representing privately held businesses.

Despite his new career as a business attorney, Mike maintains a passion for writing. Aside from the MikeRasor.com blog, Mike also writes a sports blog for the Akron Beacon Journal’s Web site, Ohio.com, covering the Akron Zips basketball, football, and soccer teams.

Mike considers his faith a critical part of his life. He regularly attends The Chapel in Akron.

Mike is also an avid sports fan. He enjoys watching the Cavaliers, Indians, and Browns. He also enjoys playing golf, tennis, softball, and basketball.

Mike is an active member of the Joseph A. Tomci Memorial Foundation, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, Fraternal Order of Police Associates, and Stow-Munroe Falls Chamber of Commerce.
